The Weird STD Strain

By estimation, above 3 million people are infected by this disease, of which most people do not know that they are infected unless tested positive. This is because only 30% shows symptoms. This disease can be transmitted from male to female or from female to male during unprotected intercourse. It usually doesn’t affect other parts of the body such as mouth and anus. Several STD tests confirm that trich is relatively not common for those who practice bisexual and gays.

Signs and symptoms of trich

The symptoms which trichomoniasis may show may not be very pleasant to the infected individual and this is when you will realize that it is not a fun part. For men, you feel a very irritating itching inside your penis while for ladies; you will experience a very gross-smelling discharge from your vagina. During urination, ladies may also experience itching and burning.

Both genders may also experience pain during sex. Therefore, it is a good advice that any time you are experiencing pain during sex, you should stop immediately.

How serious is trich?

According to Yesmean Wahdam, M.D who is the associate medical director from Bayer Women’s Healthcare, he said, "It depends on what your definition of serious is, if 'less serious' means a disease that can be easily cured, trich falls into that category."

On the other hand, it can be easier for individuals to contact trichomoniasis and other STDs such as HIV due to the inflammation that is caused by trich. And things may get complicated if a pregnant lady is infected. Trich is closely associated negative pregnancy outcome such as preterm births.

Treatment and prevention of trich

Just as the other Sexually Transmitted Diseases, trich can be prevented by wearing a condom during sexual intercourse. Trich is one of the STDs that are very easy to treat. You only need to be prescribed for one megadoze of antibiotics (tinidazole, metronidazole or nitroimidazole)

One should not take alcohol if treated with the above mentioned antibodies. The side effect of these drugs may be abdominal discomfort, extreme nausea, name them but a few. According to Yvonne Bohn, M.D a gynecologist from St. Monica he she said, “With Trichomonas, get treatment and change your behavior while being treated—either with abstinence or condom use."

You should remember that contacting trich one does not make a person immune. In your usual STI screening panel trich is always excluded. Often the panel includes gonorrhea and Chmydia. Therefore, unless the patient has symptoms that the doctor can confirm to be in line with trich or if you request for the test as an individual, it will not be included.
