Syphilis: an alarming condition among Bisexuals and Gay

The number of syphilis cases in the US

In December of 2014, the number of syphilis cases in the US were notice after accurate syphilis test and went up by 10% from 2012-2013. Syphilis among bisexuals are accounting for 75% of the increase, according to the US health officials in a report. The rates of another STD, chlamydia went down for the very first time in thirty years with 1.4M cases only in 2013. This showed that a 1.5% reduction from 2012 according to the USCDCP. There are more than 20M cases of STDs yearly in the US, they still went on in posing a risk for the long lasting complications for a lot of Americans, added Dr. Mermin, and he is the director of the CDCs National Center for HIV and AIDS, STD and others.

Bestowing the report, around 17,000 cases of people were reported with syphilis in 2013, there is a rate of around 5.5/10,000 people.  There are different reasons that bring bisexuals and gay at a high risk for syphilis according to Dr. Mermin.  Some of the high numbers of sexual partners with sexual networks make a malicious cycle where the occurrence of syphilis is quite higher. This leads to the higher instance, that leads to higher incidence, that cycle can also boost the frequency of infection, he added.  Dr. Rabin, the co-chief of the division of ambulatory care in the Women’s Health Programs call for the rise in cases of syphilis among bisexuals and it is quite alarming.

Syphilis: an advance warning for HIV

Syphilis is just becoming an advance warning for HIV, the virus that brings AIDS, she added.  People will typically become positive for syphilis before they will be detected with HIV. This is a typical thing for some of the past, patients and that means there is a possibility in the rise of people with HIV cases. The sores brought about by syphilis makes it easier to get or to provide someone with HIV. If a woman is pregnant, syphilis can affect the unborn child, the child may suffer from birth defects or worse you may lose your baby. In some rare instances, syphilis can also lead to serious health conditions like death; this is according to the records of the National Institute of Health in the US.  This condition is easy and simple to treat using antibiotics if it will be diagnosed early on.

Chlamydia on the other hand, the infection rate was around 447/100,000 people in 2013. The instances remain for chlamydia was still concentrated among young women, according to the research. If it will be left undetected, it will lead to a life threatening condition, the fertilized egg will be fastens outside of the uterus or it may lead to infertility.  One of the problems with people is that they do not want to discuss their health condition with the other people even with health workers, which shouldn’t be the case. It is not really about sex, it is truly about their health.
