Women must be careful of the 8 deadly symptoms of syphilis

Treat Syphilis bacteria immediately

Contracting the bacterial infection brings fear and sadness, but syphilis bacteria can be treated with a quick shot of antibiotics meds. The bacteria are in its latent state when after a year of not treating the infection. Syphilis can stay in your body for many years when you leave the infection untreated.

Interestingly, the bacteria can become active again after decades of living in the body of the victim. Syphilis causes deformities in newborns, damage the victim's nerves, brain, heart, and eyes, often cases of paralysis, blindness, and sudden death. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) warned that vital organs of the body fail to function when Syphilis is full blown.

What are the deadly symptoms of syphilis in women?

  1. Mouth, vagina and anus sores: Syphilis patients may not see multiple sores at the first stage within three to six weeks. More so, the spot of infection may be absent. Dr. Shepherd said; 'In fact, they can be misdiagnosed as genital warts, which aren’t painful either.' That's because both have symptoms of sores in the genital and mouth area. The most visible sign of secondary-stage syphilis is the display of multiple mid-sized (1-3cm) sores appearing in moist areas of the victim's underarms, mouth, or groin.
  2. Swollen lymph glands and flu: Flu comes with mild symptoms of swollen lymph glands as a sign of syphilis infection. The victims feel feverish with temperatures as high as 38 to 38.1 degrees Celsius. Although this feeling might be short-lived; it's noticeable in the experience of infected victims.
  3. Red rashes appear on the skin: Skin discoloration, rashes, and sweaty spots will be seen on the body. Go for STD test, and visit a physician if the result of the test is unfavorable. Initially, some mild rashes may appear on the skin with rough red patches and bumps like acne. Although the rashes may not cause itching, they hardly go unnoticed when victims are infected. Syphilis bacteria live and travel through victim's blood.
  4. Some feeling of dementia and clumsiness: At the third level of deadly syphilis, the brain and nervous systems are attacked. At this level, sensory deficits and other harmful effects are noticed in 10% of patients with undiagnosed syphilis. Other symptoms of prolonged syphilis in the body are; spinal cord and brain inflammation, meningitis, and headaches. With the use of intravenous antibiotics, the doctor treats infected people with this level of syphilis. It is advised to go for STD test if you feel these symptoms.
  5. Poor vision in the day and night time: This condition is referred to as ocular syphilis, and it occurs as a tertiary effect of untreated syphilis. It occurs in patients as the bacteria affects their optic nerve in the brain, and might lead to a permanent state of blindness.
  6. Hair loss in the secondary syphilis stage: The loss of hair occurs in the secondary stages of syphilis; leaving bald scalps and patches all over. This condition of hair loss id termed syphilitic alopecia, and different from hormonal changes, and medications in women.  Dr. Shepherd said; 'In the secondary stages of syphilis, you might find patchy bald spots on your scalp. Known as syphilitic alopecia, “this is not one of the big symptoms of syphilis in women, and it’s not typical of what we would normally see.'
  7. Weight loss: It is a common occurrence to experience weight loss during a time of ill health. However, in second-stage syphilis, women lose some kilos.
  8. Blisters: The victim often sees painless sores in the first stage of syphilis (3-6 weeks). More so, multiple blisters appear after having unprotected sex.
